Finally, after having our camper for almost two months, we are going to sleep in our camper for the first night. We are very excited, everything is hopefully in order. Riny has checked the main things and he has spare parts for the most important ones. I took care of our clothing, books, binoculars and food. We can feed a whole orphanage. Also the bed looks good. We had a lot of sunshine these past weeks. The charging of batteries with the solar collectors worked splendidly. We can’t wish for more. Even the weather is today looking favorable upon us

First we stop at Naardermeer forest, overlooking the harbor where we ones had sailed with our sailing boat ‘Fulmar’. Defying high seas and strong winds. Sweet memories of our sailing trips come up immediately and a very rich feeling that we are such lucky people. Now, we plan to conquer the roads, who knows where too. We celebrate this new adventure with a delicious pastry. Our first night over will be near the Oostvaardersplassen

Oostvaardersplassen is a nature reserve situated in the middle of Holland. It’s mostly a swampy area, unprecedented bird richness and wild open fields. Walking in Oostvaardersplassen is like going back more than 1000 years. Some parts of Oostvaardersplassen is forbidden to the public. Here the animals can have their sanctuary. It’s is a great place to make photos. You can meet the wild fox, deers, Konik horses and thousands of ‘Grauwe ganzen’ Anser anser/Greylag Goose

We still didn’t find the time to buy our own camera, so we borrowed a small camera from friends, it has a zoom lens of 3x. That is not a whole lot if you want to shoot some pictures from dragonflies, birds of other animals in nature

Because we have a telescope for bird watching, which has an enormous zoom lens, 60 x zoom, we decided to use the telescope with the borrowed camera. Unfortunately the lens of the borrowed camera is much smaller than the opening of our telescope. You can buy a ring that solves this problem. It cost approximately between E 350 – E 500. Yes, only for the ring! So we had to find another solution to this problem

You know the sink in the kitchen where you do the dishwashing. Such a sink has a rubber stopper, so the water cannot flush out. That sink stopper has exactly the same measurement of the opening of our telescope. All we had to do was to make a hole in the middle of the rubber sink stopper as small as the size of the lens of the borrowed camera. Hahahiho, if you don’t want to spend money, look around you and you will find an creative answer. Of course we are not going to win a World Press Photo with ‘our ring’, but that is not our intention. Anyway, with this equipment we went strolling along in nature in Oostvaardersplassen

We are enjoying the dragonflies. It’s difficult to make pictures of the very quick flying dragonflies, and with a borrowed camera that you don’t know it is even harder. Hundreds of deer and their offspring filled the lens of the telescope. The new born Konik foals were not standing sure on their feet yet. Two youngsters were caressing one another

Suddenly we hear the cries of a juvenile bird. We know it is the cry for food from the young ‘Grote bonte specht’ (Dendrocopos major). Where is this young sitting? We are searching every branch, but all to no avail

Our patience is being tested. But we won’t give up. We are going for the third time over the trunk of a tree, looking for holes

And there we see him!
Yes, there! In one hole we see the juvenile of the Grote bonte specht

Like all juveniles, animals or humans alike, they take risks. He is sticking his head too far out of the hole. Impatiently looking out for the next meal. Meanwhile screaming out loud: ‘Where are you Mom and Dad? Can a baby bird like me not rely on his parents

The Grote bonte specht chops his hole preferable in softer sort of timber. The female lays four to six white eggs. We only see one youngster at the time. So we don’t know how many are in the hole. Both parents give the young ones food. They eat insects, especially larva of the beetles, who are nestling under the bark of trees. Apparently not fast enough to the fancy of this juvenile: ‘Mom and Dad, you are taking your time! I am hungry

The Grote bonte specht is quite a big bird between 20 to 26 centimeters. Both sexes has a large oval white shoulder spot and a red spot by the rectal. The male has also a red mark on the back of his head. The female has a complete black head. Juvenile birds have a complete red top of the head, as we can see by this juvenile. And then we see one of the parents coming. We notice a black head. It is the mother, but she can’t satisfy her young yet

We are thrilled to see them both and that the pictures are clear enough to be able to recognize the birds. The black ring around the picture is the sink stopper. It’s quite difficult to put the lens of the camera right in the middle of the lens of the telescope. This sink stopper is our own idea, it ‘s amateurs work

A few kilometers later we see in our telescope, half kilometer (500 metres) in the distance, juvenile wild foxes. Springtime is a fantastic time to go out in a nature reserve. We are excited to see these youngsters and try to take some pictures

We find a place for the night, right at the IJsselmeer, near a colony of Visdiefjes Sterna hirundo

It’s a gorgeous place to spend the night for nature and bird lovers. It’s is also for free, however it is not an official parking space. One has to be careful that it’s safe enough

We had promised one another not to take to big risk to sleep in nature. So to make sure it’s safe enough, Riny introduces himself to another camper. We will watch for each other during the night

It is not very far away from Oostvaardersplassen, we enjoyed it thoroughly and it taste for more. Visdiefje is a beautiful slender gracious bird. It’s a seabird, but we also see him in Naardermeer. His nickname is ‘sea swallow’. It’s species name is the Latin ‘hirundo’, meaning ‘swallow’. His graciousness reminds us also at the other swallows we know

The parents of the juvenile Visdiefjes are going back and forth from nest to IJsselmeer to nest and so on, catching food for their young

They fly right in front of us! We can observe their typical plunge-diving for fish. It usually dives directly and not from the ‘stepped-hover’ like by the Torenvalk Falco tinnunculus

The Visdiefje is very defensive of its nest and young and will attack humans and other large predators. However it will rarely hits the intruder, mostly swerving off at the last minute

We thoroughly enjoy watching thousands of Aalscholvers (Phalacrocorax carbo) fishing sociable

We know they are also fishing sociable, but never had the opportunity to see them doing that so nearby

You have seen a colony of Aalscholvers in Naardermeer too

The typical shriekish sounds of the Visdiefjes put us fast asleep, dreaming of birds, foxes, dragonflies and our great camper

ברכה לחג חנוכה שמח מחברי ההולנדיים אוהבי הטבע ריני וג'רי קלוברס. הם מורי דרך מוסמכים ומתנדבים להדריך בשמורות טבע בהולנד. כיצד היכרתי אותם? פשוט מאד. זה היה כאשר הם רכבו באופניים סביב העולם או ליתר דיוק מהולנד עד הודו והיתה לנו הזכות לארח אותם בביתנו. כאשר אנו עשינו טיול שורשים בהולנד הם אירחו אותנו הסיורים ובשייט בשמורות טבע. חברי צילמו את התמונה המהממת הזו בלב יער הולנד ונזכרו בנו ובחג חנוכה

השביל עובר בין שדותיו המטופחים של ציפורי. כל שנה וכל עונה יש הפתעה חדשה בשטח. כמה יפה לראות טרקטור עמוס כלניות תרבותיות, גדודי הפועלים הזרים, אצנים, רוכבי אופניים והולכי רגל.
עליה קלה למצפה סנדו מובילה אותנו למרעה מגודר ביער עצי אלון. המרעה גורם לריבוי פרחי הבר הרבים. בין הסלעים ניתן לזהות מחצבות, גתות ומערות. בראש הגבעה מתנופף דגל מעל נקודת התצפית והלימוד המכונה מצפה סנדו. כמה יפה הנוף החקלאי על רקע יערות אלון ואורן בין הישובים היהודיים וערביים. אני מוכרח להביא את הנכדים לכאן!

הידד לקבוצת המטיילים השומרת על רעננותה, שפתחה את תכנית הטיולים לשנת תשע"ב.

פדואל – נווה צוף

התחלנו את הטיול בשעה 7:15 בהדרכתו של דביר רביב, ב- "מרפסת של המדינה" (מונח של אריק שרון) שבפדואל, שצופה מגובה בגובה 408 מ' אל מישור החוף. צפינו בארובות תחנת הכוח של חדרה, ומשם דרומה לנתניה, רעננה-הרצליה, כפר קאסם, פתח-תקוה, בני ברק-רמת גן, ראשל"צ, רחובות, אשדוד ואשקלון בדרום. "מתחתחינו ממש, נתב"ג, קידוח "גבעות עולם, מזרחה יותר, מצפון לדרום, צפינו ברכס של חומש, אלפי מנשה, מעלה שומרון, אלקנה, שערי תקווה ואורנית, חב"ג עילית (לשם בקרוב), ראש העיין, דיר בלוט, אלעד. הלאה מדרומנו, הרי גופנא, רמאללה, חרשה ונווה צוף.

יצאנו משער היישוב בדרך לצרידה. חצינו את ואדי א-שמים (יובל של נחל שילה) והתחלנו לטפס אל הרכס של בינת-בר תחילה הגענו למערת צרידה היושבת מעל מצוק אדיר מעל פרסת נחל שילה. התישבנו לארוחת בקר אל מול הנוף המדהים ושמענו הסבר על עברה של בינת-בר – הלא היא צרידה המקראית, עירו של ירבעם בן נבט, ששמה השתמר בשם הערבי של קטע נחל שילה שמתחתנו – "ואדי סרידה" ובאר המיים "ביר סרידה" שבהמשך הנחל. הבהרנו – אחת ולתמיד – כי "צרידה, של יועזר איש צרידה איננה כאן, אלא מזוהה עם הכפר סורדא שבאזור גופנא.

המשכנו על קצה הרכס מעט מערבה ועלינו במדרגות עתיקות אל "אזור התעשייה, של צרידה. עמדנו ליד "בודדה", מתקן להפקשת שמן מתקופת המלוכה. – עדות יפה ליישוב המבוצר שהיה כאן, ושמוזכר בתרגום השבעים.

האבנים ששימשו למתקנים ולביצורים נחצבו באזור – במיוחד באזור המערה.

בהמשך גילינו בור מיים, בחלקו מטוייח, עם עמוד תמיכה חצוב.

למדנו גם על הדרך העתיקה "לוד-שכם" שעברה מתחתינו ואשר קטע ממנה עדיין יכלנו לראות יוצא מתוך הפיתול התחתון (הצפוני) של הכביש שחוצה את נחל שילה.

גלשנו לנחל שילה, הישר לתוך הפרסה, ועצרנו בביר סרידה – באר צרידה. זו אכן באר ולא בור – למרות שהערבים לא עושים אבחנה בין שמות בורות לבארות. הבאר גדולה יחסית, ומדופנת.

בהזדמנות זו הזכרנו את חרבת בלטה שראינו במרכז הפרסה של נחל שילה – חורבה מהתקופה הרומית ביזאנטית עם שרידי מבנים, גלי אבנים ומתקנים חקלאים. על החורבה יושבת משפחה בדואית הפוגעת בשרידים ובנוף.

המשכנו מעט מערבה. עזבנו את נחל שילה ונכנסנו לואדי אל חכים, שבקטע הזה הוא נקרא בפי הערבים ואדי א-זרקא על שם המעיין. הלכנו מזרחה – תחילה ממש מתחת ליישוב בית אריה, ובהמשך הנחל הגענו לעין א – זרקא, " המעיין הכחול", השופע והנקי שבמעיינות השומרון.

המשכנו במעלה הנחל וקרוב לעינות עבוד הבחנו בשרידי טחנת קמח – עדות לשפיעה החזקה שהיתה בנחל בעבר.

היות והגענו אחרי "עונת הרחצה", הבריכות של עינות עבוד היו סגורות ואנו המשכנו במעלה הנחל וחצינו את כביש עבוד – בית רימא.

כאן עצרנו להסבר מפורט על עברו העשיר של הכפר עבוד ובמיוחד על בית הקברות – "מקטע עבוד", ועל מערת המפלט.

המשכנו במעלה הנחל, עברנו מתחת חורבת תיבנה (ראה בהמשך) לבריכות של עין ריא. הבריכה התחתונה שהיתה מלאה, והעליונה שהיתה מלאה בחלקה – ניזונות מנביעה שנראית יפה מעבר לכביש (מדרום).

המעיין הבא – למרגלות נווה צוף – עין מאיר, בריכות יפות וסוכה "מזמינה". ראינו מדריגות וחציבות בסלעים מסביב – עדות לפולחן פגני שנערך באזור לאחר מרד בר-כוכבא כאשר האוכלוסיה היהודית נכחדה.

בשעת אחרי צהריים היה יפה מאוד להשקיף מכיוון נווה צוף מערבה, אל העמק הפורה של ואדי אל חכים, המעיינות והשדות המעובדים.

חצינו את נווה צוף והגענו ל-"בוסתן ארז", פינת חמד שהוקמה ע"י הנוער הנפלא של נווה צוף, לזכרו של ארז רון, תושב עופרה שנרצח ב – 2002 בואדי חרמיה. במקום עצי תאנה, תמר, תפוח, צריף "להתבודדות", ספסלים ובעיקר נוף נפלא. צפינו (מצפון למזרח ולדרום) אל: יער אום צפא, עטרת, ביר זית וחרשה.

סיימנו את היום עם "קינוח פיקנטי": כתובת חקוקה בסלע מימי מלחמת העולם הראשונה, של חייל בריטי (כנראה משועמם), שהיה בעמדה אחורית בסמוך ל– "קו העוג'ות", ששימש מספר חודשים בשלהי 1917 ועד אביב 1918, קו גבול בין הצבא הבריטי לצבא התורכי.

סיימנו את היום בכניסה לנווה צוף.

נווה צוף – נילי

התחלנו את היום באתר הארכיאולוגי חובלתא (בערבית – גפן), בתוככי הישוב נווה צוף. האתר , ברובו מהתקופה הרומית המאוחרת, מכיל שפע של ממצאים, ביניהם: מקוה, קבר דו-מקמרי, וגת גדולה: 16 מיתקנים ייחודיים למקום: משטח הדריכה עגול (!) ולידו בור איסוף. המעניינת שבין ההצעות השונות למהות הגתות הנ"ל היא של זוהר עמאר: גתות לייצור יין מתוק. בנוסף, מצויה בחובלתא גם גת תקנית וכן בור פעמון.

יצאנו מהיישוב מערבה, עברנו שוב ליד עין ריא והעפלנו לחרבת תיבנה. התל לא נחפר אך נמצאו בו ממצאים מהתקופה הכנענית ועד לתקופה המוסלמית הקדומה. התל מוגן היטב, קרוב למקור מיים ולשטחי חקלאות, ונמצא קרוב לדרך חשובה ממישור החוף לירושליים.

שמענו הסבר על זיהוי המקום עם העיר "תמנה", הלא היא תמנת חרס, מקום מגוריו וקבורתו של יהושע בן נון, ובירת מחוז תמנה בימי ביית שני. 2 המחוזות האחרים של יהודה הם: עקרבא וגופנא.

חצינו את הכביש דרומה והגענו ל-"קבר יהושע" – כך הוא נקרא ע"י מספר חוקרים וכך הוא מופיע בחלק מהמפות. חזית מרשימה: בצדדים -2 אומנות חצובות ובראשם כותרת מדורגת וכן 2 עמודים.

פתח בתחתית החזית מוביל למערה עם כוכים ובפנים יש כניסה לחדר שבו נקבר כנראה אדם חשוב.

שמענו את תאור עבודתו של ויקטור גרן הצרפתי שערך 8 מסעות מחקר בא"י במחצית ה-2 של המאה ה-19 וזיהה כאן את קבר יהושע בן נון, בין השאר עקב קרבתו ל-"תמנה". רוב החוקרים כיום שוללים זיהוי זה בעיקר משום שבתקופת יהושע בן נון עדיין לא היתה נהוגה קבורה בכוכים.

קרוב ל-"קבר יהושע" יש מספר מערות קבורה נוספות המחזקות את עובדת היות תיבנה עיר גדולה וחשובה.

המשכנו דרומה כשאנו הולכים מעל ובמקביל לואדי א-זרקא, הוא נחל נטוף, תוך שאנו "עוקפים מלמעלה" את 4 המעיינות הראשונים, וירדנו אל עין סלים עם הבריכה היפה. שמענו הסבר על הנחל, שהוא בעל ריכוז המעיינות הגדול ביותר בשומרון, כ-20 נביעות וכ-40 בריכות, חלקן עתיקות. שמענו הסבר, ובהמשך גם ראינו בפועל את חתירת הנחל בתוך המבנה הגיאולוגי של תצורת כסלון היושבת על תצורת שורק.

המשכנו לעין א-דילבה – עין דולב (כנראה שגדל כאן דולב – בעבר), לעין בננה ולעין תות. לאחר 1.5 ק"מ במורד הנחל יצאנו ממנו כדי לעקוף את נ.ג. 364 מדרום ולהגיע קרוב לחורבת ארטבא – ישוב ביזנטי עם שרידים גם מימי ביית שני.

עמדנו ליד פתח מערת קבורה שכתוצאה מעבודות עפר נותר בה פתח קטן – אך רחב דיו לדביר שהשתחל לתוכה וגילה בה שבר גלוסקמא מעוטרת – עדות לנוכחות היהודית באזור.

חזרנו לואדי וביקרנו בעין ארטבא, מעיין נחמד עם בריכת בטון ובריכה נוספת חיצונית.

בהמשך הואדי הגענו לעין קצב (עין קנה) – ללא שם עברי !

המעיין חילחל והציף מערת קבורה עם כוכים !!! לנוכח מערת הקבורה – קיבלנו את ההצעה לשם העברי: "עין חיים".

עברנו סמוך לכפר שיבתין. מעט דרומה לו נמצא תל הכולל מספר קברים חצובים, בעיקר מימי ביית שני.

חצינו את כביש 446 ועלינו למערת שוקבא. המערה בצורת פעמון טבעי, שנוצרה מהמסת סלע הגיר, התגלתה ב-1924 ע"י האב אלכסיס מאלון.

ב-1928 חפרה כאן משלחת בריטית בראשות דורותי גארוד ומצאה 4 שכבות יישוב, שהמאוחרת שבהן היא מהתקופה הכנענית הקדומה. גולת הכותרת של הממצאים נמצאה בשכבה השנייה מהתקופה הנאוליתית: עצמות צבי א"י, חתול בר, יחמור, תאו וכן כלי חרס.

דורותי קראה לתרבות הזו בשם התרבות הנטופית –וכך היא נקראת בפי החוקרים בעולם.

ירדנו לואדי ועלינו לחורבת שבתין – סמוך לנילי. הממצא היפה בחורבה – בית בד ביזנטי "משוכלל".

סיימנו את הטיול בצומת נילי.
